Gastric Ulcer Healing Activity of Tecoma stans Leaf

Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth (Bignoniaceae) is plants widely used for the empirical treatment of wound healing and ulcer, but their gastric ulcer protecting activity remain to be clarified. In this study, the effect of ethanolic extracts of Tecoma stans (TSE) leaf on pylorus ligation Induced ulcers was evaluated. The extract was selected in two dose first 250mg/kg and second 500mg/kg. Both doses of Tecoma stans produced significant reduction in the volume of gastric juice, pH, free acid ulcer score, and percentage of ulcer protection when compared to control. Hence, tecoma stans as effective as standard synthetic drugs like Rantidine so, ethanolic extract of Tecoma stans has therapeutic potential for the control of ulcer.
